LTC Description:
Since 2006, San Diego State University (SDSU) has developed and delivered ILR 0 to 3 level language and culture training for active duty military, ROTC cadets, linguists, and reserve personnel to respond to the cross-service need for demonstrable proficiency in critical languages and cultures. SDSU-LARC’s LTC enhances partners’ mission readiness in critical languages and transcultural competency and is able to deliver training in languages that are not routinely taught in higher education because it is also home to the Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC). From 1990 to 2014, LARC was one of a select group of centers around the U.S. funded through the Department of Education to research and develop world language assessments, curricula, and materials at a variety of proficiency levels.

Pedagogical Approach
SDSU adapts and tailors its approach to the specified learning outcomes of the sending unit and the students’ learning styles. SDSU LTC faculty provide immersive, performance-based instruction, focusing on linguistic task, learner profile, and knowledge of American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and Interagency Language Roundtable proficiency guidelines.
