Concordia College provides residential, intensive iso-immersion language training in partnership with the Utah National Guard, DLIFLC/Monterey, CA, and USACAPOC/Ft. Bragg. The courses provide two-week and four-week accelerated learning, iso-immersion sessions for six to ten students at a time. The iso-immersion courses address training needs in eight languages (see below), and are designed to support basic language acquisition or language proficiency maintenance/advancement (depending on partner) along with development of cultural competencies.
The courses are designed for students who demonstrate proficiency levels ranging from 1/ 1+ to 3 / 3+. The instructor-to-student ratio is 1:3 for small-group instruction. This ratio supports an ability to differentiate delivery of material to a range of language speakers and provides opportunities for more personalized instruction as warranted. A two-week session, 11 full days of instruction, encompasses 110 documented hours of language training; a four-week sessions, 30 full days of instruction, encompasses 275 hours of language training.
The immersion setting of Concordia College creates a grand simulation exposing learners to the target language in a community-based learning environment that engages participants by ”living” the language and culture. The iso-immersion setting is reinforced by a 1:3 instructor to student ratio and situational learning based on real life scenarios
